Nigerian masses are the real supporters of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari, his wife, Hajiya Aishat Buhari, has said.
Buhari’s wife who spoke in Ilorin during a courtesy call on Kwara State governor, AbdulFatah Ahmed at the Government House said that the bulk of her husband’s supporters are the Nigerian masses most of whom she claimed are unlettered.
Corroborating Hajiya Buhari’s assertion, Governor Ahmed asserted that Nigerians have rejected the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because those in the party have moved away from the people.
Buhari’s wife who was on a two-day citizen outreach and sensitisation visit to the state said there was a great need to sensitise Nigerian women who she said constitute 55 per cent of the registered voters on the logo of the APC to enable them cast their votes rightly during the forthcoming general elections.
This, according to her, became imperative in view of the fact that the APC presidential candidate had at different times been in the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).
“The whole issue rallies round women as you are all aware that women are the major voters. Specifically now, women constitute 55 per cent of the number of registered voters in Nigeria. And our duty is to educate the women who are the major voters. Our responsibility is to educate the women on how to vote, educate them on the party and the logo.
“A lot of people that joined the party were chanting different slogans of different political parties and the illiterate can hardly identify where they are now. So, it is important for us to educate the electorate about the broom."
